Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant has been ruled out for six weeks due to a toe fracture during the 4th Test against England at Manchester. He injured his right foot while attempting a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes, which caused significant bleeding and swelling, leading to his retirement hurt on day 1 of the Test.

The fracture confirmed by scans means Pant will miss the remainder of the Test series, including the final Test at The Oval. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team has advised six weeks of rest, and despite exploring options for him to bat with painkillers, the chances of his return in this series are bleak.

Impact of Rishabh Pant

This injury is a significant setback for India, as Pant is a key wicketkeeper-batter and the second-highest run-scorer of the tour so far. The injury also compounds India’s injury woes, with other players already unavailable due to different injuries.

Replacement

Ishan Kishan has been announced as the replacement for the injured Rishabh Pant in the Indian Test squad for the fifth and final Test against England at The Oval, scheduled from July 31 to August 4, 2025. While Dhruv Jurel has taken over wicketkeeping duties in Pant’s absence for the remainder of the fourth Test, Ishan Kishan, currently playing County cricket in England, will join as the backup wicketkeeper and batter for the final Test.

Kishan Recent County Experience

Ishan Kishan recently made a remarkable effect in the 2025 County Championship playing for Nottinghamshire. On his debut against Yorkshire at Trent Bridge, he scored a commanding 87 runs off 98 balls, including 12 fours and a six, showcasing his aggressive style against a strong bowling attack. Signed on a short-term contract to cover two County matches, Kishan also impressed in his second outing against Somerset with a score of 77. Besides his batting, he caught attention by bowling a single over featuring off-spin, leg-spin, and medium pace variations in a light-hearted effort.

This means he will likely miss upcoming matches during this period as he focuses on healing.
