Mallika Sagar is an Indian art collector and auctioneer known for her pioneering work career in fine art and sports auctions. Born on August 3, 1975, in Mumbai, she was inspired early on by a book featuring a female auctioneer, particularly in cricket leagues like IPL and WPL.
Early Career
Sagar got her degree in art history from Bryn Mawr College in Philadelphia. She began working at Christie’s auction house in New York in 2001. At age 26, she became the first Indian woman auctioneer there, focusing on modern and contemporary Indian art. Later, she joined Pundole’s Art Gallery in Mumbai.
Sports Auctions
She started as the first female auctioneer for the Pro Kabaddi League in 2021. Since then, she has led major auctions like the inaugural Women’s Premier League in 2023, IPL 2024 mini-auction, IPL 2025 mega-auction in Jeddah, and WPL 2026 auction. She is now conducting the IPL 2026 mini-auction in Abu Dhabi on December 16, 2025.
Relationship
Mallika Sagar divorced her ex-husband, Vir Advani, in 2017. Vir Advani is the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Blue Star Ltd. They have at least one son, and some reports say two children.
