Shubman Gill is an Indian international cricketer, who plays for the India national team in all formats. Known as “The Prince,” he captains the Indian Test and ODI teams and has also captained the T20I side before. Shubman Gill is currently managing the challenge of playing across all three formats (Test, ODI, T20) for India, but he admits it is not easy and is still figuring out how to balance it.
Gill has been participating in every series since Feb
Shubman Gill has played a total of 31 international matches across formats and has participated in 15 IPL T20 matches. Since February 2025, he has been involved in every series for India. In 2025, he also took on leadership roles, including being appointed as the Test captain of India following the retirement of senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Gill has scored 19 international centuries to date, comprising 10 in Tests, 8 in ODIs, and 1 in T20Is. In the IPL, he has been pivotal for Gujarat Titans and served as their captain in the 2025 season. His performances include key centuries in international cricket and record-breaking IPL seasons, underlining his importance as both a premier batter and a leader for India and his IPL team.
Is there no workload management on him?
there have been very few concerns publicly raised about his workload management. Gill himself has described the challenge as more mental than physical, noting that constantly switching between formats and time zones is mentally taxing, though physically he feels fine. He is still learning how to balance his performance and consistency across formats amid this packed schedule.
Mentally and Physically stable
India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has acknowledged that playing all formats is super challenging and commended Gill for taking up and managing this challenge effectively. Although the workload is high and ongoing, Gill has maintained his fitness and form and there have been no major public concerns about his physical workload breakdown or burnout so far in 2025.

Serious injury against South Africa
Shubman Gill sustained a neck injury during the first Test against South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. He suffered a neck spasm while batting early in his innings and had to retire hurt. He was stretchered out of the dressing room with a neck brace and taken to Woodlands hospital for scans and observation. The injury is not an external trauma but a stiff neck/spasm, which has also affected him previously.
His ongoing workload and leadership roles make workload management and possible format prioritization a prudent conversation for preserving his long-term fitness, form, and impact for India cricket.
