Wasim Akram praised PSL for having five-week schedule

Wasim Akram

Wasim Akram praised the Pakistan Super League for having a short, five-week schedule. He said this is good for both players and fans. At the same time, he quietly criticized the Indian Premier League for lasting too long.

Statement Details

Akram recently said on social media that the PSL is good because it only lasts 34 days, or about five weeks. He compared it to longer leagues like the IPL, which usually go on for around three months. This was shared around December 8, 2025, during talks about how T20 leagues are organized.

He said “The best thing about PSL is that it lasts for 34 days or a bit more next year. It’s not three months long like other leagues. Bachay bade ho jate hai, woh league khatam hi nhi hoti”.

PSL Upcoming Season

Starting in 2026, the PSL will take place in April and May. This change will make it easier for overseas players to join and avoid problems with bad weather. The league will also grow to eight teams, adding new ones from cities like Hyderabad or Rawalpindi.

Context

Akram has said before that the IPL is bigger, but the PSL is very popular in Pakistan. In 2024, he mentioned this again. He also praised the PSL for managing player fatigue well and having a better schedule.
