Early Life and Background
Coming from average background, he faced financial struggles early in life. At 19, Umair moved to Mumbai with only ₹5,500 and supported himself by working odd jobs such as waiter and sushi roller while continuing cricket practice. His friend paid off when he joined the MIG Cricket Club and began appearing on the radar of Mumbai selectors. His friend gave his credit card and told him to go and just play. His friend also told him, focus on tennis ball also, there are lots of opportunities. And rightly so, he focused on tennis ball.
Career Journey
Umair started his cricket journey playing local tournaments in Mumbai before joining the MIG Cricket Club. His big break came through the Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) in 2025, representing Falcon Risers Hyderabad where he took 13 wickets at an average of 11 in 12 matches. His outstanding ISPL performances earned him the Gully to Glory Award 2025 and a ₹16 lakh contract in the ISPL auction.
He got opportunity to serve as a net bowler for the Mumbai Senior Team, gaining exposure to seasoned professionals. After that, In October 2025, he made his Ranji Trophy debut for Mumbai against Jammu & Kashmir, marking a significant step in his professional career. He bowls left-arm fast and bats left-handed.
